Hi there

Obligatory first post, where you get to learn all about me and my four-leggeds. The many many that have come through my life, and those that are still around.

I live in the beautiful but troubled South Africa. I've been here all my life and I love this country with all my heart.

I've been riding since I was 9 years old (officially. Pony rides and toddling on friends and familys' horses don't count 😉 ). I learnt to ride on a cousin's stringy chestnut SPCA rescue gelding called Cinnamon.

From him, I moved to a riding school, spending many happy years there until it closed down to become only a livery yard. I started "work" riding, helping out owners who didn't have the time or expertise to keep their own horses in work. That brought many highs and many lows which I'm sure will come out here over the course of time - you'll just have to wait!

Last year I started leasing an incredible old man with a heart of fire and a mind of steel. His registered name is Broomehill, but he is known as Jerry (Gerald, Jerry-atric, Old man, and an assortment of other names). He is a 25 year old (YES that's twenty flippin five!) dark bay TB, with legs to his ears and a sway back. He competed extensively when he was younger in dressage, showjumping and eventing and is a complete schoolmaster in all senses of the word.

How is a horse this old this handsome? Ah my heart...
I showjump with him and we are competing 1m currently. Despite his age, he is still full of pep and vinegar and even more competitive than I am! He thrives on his work and has been mistaken for a youngster before 🙈

I don't know which direction this blog will go in. Obviously a lot of it will be about this handsome guy above but we'll see what else pops up :) Hopefully you'll joinn along in the journey!
